Course Outline

This dynamic one day course will explore creative methods for engaging and facilitating communities and service users in consultation processes; with specific time to explore concepts of meaningful participation, underpinning values and in what ways stakeholders can really influence decisions. Participants are encouraged to reflect and critique every part of the course, from start to finish in terms of creating an environment for effective and open dialogue, making the most of the resources you have available, and the techniques and processes selected by the facilitator. During the day there will be the opportunity to experience four creative tools and methods, and many others are discussed. Participants leave with a resource pack.

This course was originally developed by Plymouth Octopus Project (POP) in collaboration with Plymouth City Council as part of the Plymouth Plan. Plymouth has recently won a National Award for its approaches and success in public engagement. In Bristol, Public Health and Neighbourhood practitioners have found the techniques to be immediately applicable in local activities and consultation events.
