Effectively identify and manage adult safeguarding issues in line with good practice and legislative changes in England.

This is a 1 day course delivered online (for teams).

Drawing on changes brought about by the Care Act 2014 (for England), develop your understanding to support teams to identify how to respond to safeguarding disclosures and concerns.

Participants will have opportunities to consider why clients who face increased risk might not report abuse; explore good practice in preventing abuse and neglect, dealing with disclosure, preserving physical evidence and accurate recording; and understand the role of an independent advocate and who to contact for advice, to make a referral or in an emergency.

This course covers the Care Act 2014 (for England) and Mental Capacity Act 2005 (amended 2019) (for England & Wales)

    Course aims

    To enable managers and teams to effectively identify and manage adult safeguarding issues in line with good practice and in light of the new legislative changes in England

    Course objectives

    By the end of the course participants will have had opportunities to:

    • Understand the changes brought in by the Care Act 2014 (for England) regarding safeguarding including new categories of abuse
    • Consider why clients face increased risk and don’t report abuse
    • Consider how to deal with disclosures of abuse and neglect
    • Consider challenges and solutions for managers
    • Discuss new ideas for improved multi agency working
    • Review policy and discuss how to promote awareness of safeguarding to staff and clients
