Course overview:

Anxiety and depression are known as ‘the common mental disorders’ with 1 in 6 adults of working age experiencing levels that are having an impact on their day-to-day lives.

This workshop draws on CBT and the field of Positive Psychology for evidenced based strategies that can help address anxiety and depression and promote wellbeing. Learn first aid for panic attacks and the basics of suicide safety responses, and gain signposting information for local services and national resources.

 

Aim(s):

To gain information about anxiety and depression and the evidenced based strategies and services that can help promote wellbeing.

 

Objectives:

By the end of the course participants will have had opportunities to:

  • Gain information about strategies that can promote wellbeing and resilience
  • Recognise and understand anxiety and depression and the factors that can be involved
  • Find out more about evidenced based strategies and self-help resources that can help to reduce anxiety and promote recovery from depression
  • Know the first aid for panic attacks
  • Understand the basics of suicide safety responses
  • Gain signposting information for local services and national resources

Your trainer(s)

Suzanne Pearson

Suzanne Pearson is a BABCP Accredited CBT therapist and a Registered Mental Health Nurse. She also has a PGCE in Adult Education. Suzanne has extensive and ongoing experience of supporting individuals to develop their resilience and well-being, and in supporting those recovering from mental and emotional distress.

 

She has worked in the NHS and voluntary sector as a therapist, mental health practitioner and service manager. Currently she provides a low cost in-person and online CBT therapy service for adults. Suzanne has been a longstanding volunteer with a peer led self-help group for people who self-harm, and she has also volunteered for a national out of hours crisis service.

 

She continues to be involved with various local mental health related charities as an advisor. She is an experienced independent mental health and social care trainer including being a qualified instructor for the Mental Health First Aid (Adult and Youth) and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills (ASIST) courses.
