Child protection and safeguarding
Course overview:
Exploring definitions; key safeguarding values underpinned by international and UK law, and key statutory guidance; categories, thresholds and signs of abuse, including radicalisation; appropriate responses to children's disclosure of abuse; and correct procedures for recording, reporting and referral of safeguarding concerns.
This course provide participants with an up-to-date working knowledge of child protection and safeguarding. The course is regularly reviewed in the light of recently published Serious Case Reviews.
Training on Child protection and safeguarding training for managers and designated safeguarding leads also available.
Aim(s):
To provide participants with an up-to-date working knowledge of child protection and safeguarding.
To develop understanding of how to respond to safeguarding concerns, including children’s direct disclosure.
Objectives:
By the end of the session participants will have had opportunities to:
- Define child protection, safeguarding, thresholds and abuse
- Explore key safeguarding values underpinned by international rights conventions, UK law, and key statutory guidance
- Define key categories of abuse, and explore the signs of abuse, including radicalisation
- Gain awareness of appropriate responses to children's disclosure of abuse
- Outline correct procedures for recording, reporting and referral of safeguarding concerns

Mandy Parry
Mandy has a degree in Dramatics Arts, a post graduate teaching certificate in Social Studies and a diploma in MSc Women’s Studies.
She has over 30 years’ experience of teaching and training with disaffected young people, in Sure Start centres, in sexual health settings and for local authority Social Care; where she had special responsibility for developing and delivering training in Child Protection.
She has considerable practical experience of working with children and families. Mandy’s training benefits from an extensive knowledge of Child Protection practice in a variety of different agencies and age groups.
