Effective communication

 

Course overview:

A dynamic and practical day to understand the core principles for effective communication, and to practise using ingredients and techniques for communicating assertively one-to-one and in groups. Explore barriers, behaviours and triggers that can inhibit effective communication and develop strategies and confidence to manage these. 

This course can be tailored to include managing difficult conversations, conflict and resolution.

 

Aim(s):

To develop an understanding of what effective communication is.

To develop confidence in using assertiveness techniques to communicate clearly and effectively.

 

Objectives:

By the end of the course participants will have had opportunities to:

  • Explore the difference between passive, aggressive, manipulative and assertive ways to communicate
  • Understand the core principles of effective communication
  • Practise using ingredients and techniques for effective communication
  • Explore commonly experienced difficulties and ways to manage these in one-to-one and group settings

 

Maximum group size: 16

Susan Lawrence

Susan is a creative trainer, group and reflective practice facilitator with over 30 years’ experience. Susan’s work is influenced by her previous varied roles in the Voluntary and Community Sector, Social Work and Dramatherapy, and from her current work facilitating & training in trauma based, reflective practice clinical support groups. Susan is qualified in Youth & Community Work, Social Work, Creative Supervision, Adult Education and Dramatherapy.

 

Susan offers a responsive approach that helps people feel at ease. Key threads within her courses are authentic communication, developing confidence and empowerment work for individuals and the communities they work within. Susan uses inclusive and creative methods to maximise learning, enjoyment and skills development.
