Course overview:

Drawing on evidenced based suicide intervention strategies, this course provides space to increase confidence in engaging with individuals who have thoughts of suicide.

Consider suicide risk factors and, drawing on evidenced based suicide first response strategies, practise evidenced based intervention skills, and identify approaches and resources to support individuals to make plans to stay safe.

 

Aim(s):

To increase confidence in engaging with individuals who have thoughts of suicide and understand how to plan for safety.

 

Objectives:

By the end of the course participants will have had opportunities to:

  • Increase confidence in engaging with individuals about suicide
  • Consider suicide risk and how to respond, drawing on evidenced based suicide first response strategies
  • Practice evidenced based intervention skills including developing individual plans to stay safe
  • Recognise the importance of self-care when supporting a person who has thoughts of suicide

Your trainer(s)

Suzanne Pearson

Suzanne Pearson is a BABCP Accredited CBT therapist and a Registered Mental Health Nurse. She also has a PGCE in Adult Education. Suzanne has extensive and ongoing experience of supporting individuals to develop their resilience and well-being, and in supporting those recovering from mental and emotional distress.

 

She has worked in the NHS and voluntary sector as a therapist, mental health practitioner and service manager. Currently she provides a low cost in-person and online CBT therapy service for adults. Suzanne has been a longstanding volunteer with a peer led self-help group for people who self-harm, and she has also volunteered for a national out of hours crisis service.

 

She continues to be involved with various local mental health related charities as an advisor. She is an experienced independent mental health and social care trainer including being a qualified instructor for the Mental Health First Aid (Adult and Youth) and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills (ASIST) courses.
