Motivational interviewing (1 day)

In-house course

Understand the spirit and principles and practice core skills to deliver motivational interviewing to initiate change.

This is a 1 day in-house course (we come to you).

Motivational interviewing is the leading approach for initiating change in a wide range of problems.

Examining the elements of Miller & Rollnick’s four-process model, participants develop an understanding of the spirit and principles of motivational interviewing, and practise skills to help cement theory into real life situations.

Develop key skills to deepen assessment processes; help people to reflect on behaviours and their consequences, engage with services, and strengthen their motivation to change.

    Trainer: Phil Harris

"I thought this training was excellent. Trainer clearly knows his subject and its application thoroughly. It’s made me question my interventions and provided a variety of other very helpful options. Numerous tips on language and listening skills, illuminating insights into how the brain works and access to on-line resources. I have learnt a great deal"

"Exploring stages of change, indicators and approaches. Phil is clearly very knowledgeable and experienced with motivational interviewing and explained the steps well."

"Everything! I am going to completely change my way of working! Brilliant training! Such a clever man! Thank you. I’ve learnt sooo…. Much!"

"The course was really rich & full of very relevant and useful information. The learning about ‘life course’ ‘your opinion doesn’t matter’ and living in the moment with the client. Excellent. This training is very good and I feel everyone working with children & young people should do it."

"To engage and understand the way the brain and emotions work. Some excellent day to day exercises to use. Absolutely fantastic and deeply engaging training course. Phil was excellent and really connected with all. Very enthralling."

"Clear explanation and examples of a complex topic. I have developed my understanding of brain development and function in relation to processing information; and learnt how to put motivational interviewing techniques into practice, including how to use reflective listening to prompt change talk and appropriate use of goal setting. Thank-you."
