Course overview:
An interactive two days to stimulate development for both new and more established managers, co-creators and change agents. Explore current thinking and practice of effective leadership, and practise and refine coaching skills using real world examples and challenges.
Aim(s):
To develop participants' leadership and management skills.
Objectives:
By the end of the course, you will have opportunities to:
- Gain insight into the difference between managing and leading
- Have an understanding of the different leadership styles, reflecting on your own leadership style
- Practise a variety of techniques which will enable you to develop your leadership skills and to effectively lead your team and services
- Discuss psychological safety and how we can create the conditions for this within teams to manage people inclusively
- Identify what makes an effective team and the challenges and opportunities within your own team
- Reflect on giving and receiving feedback
- Practise coaching skills using real work examples and challenges

Rowan Miller
Rowan worked in drug and alcohol services for 18 years as a practitioner and manager in both young people and adult services. She continued to develop as a manager & leader in a number of roles including Deputy Regional Alcohol Manager for the South West, Development Manager for The Training Exchange and CEO of Somerset and Avon Rape and Sexual Abuse Support (SARSAS).
Rowan was then Head of Funding across the South West region for the National Lottery Community Fund and led the England response to the women and girls sector. Rowan is now the Development Director for eight regional Eating Disorder Charities in the UK.
Rowan has been delivering training for 25 years and is a trained supervisor, qualified coach and has completed the leadership and facilitation course with Schumacher College “Co-creating the emerging future”.
