Course overview:

This half day course aims to raise general awareness about mental health and provide up to date information to help promote emotional wellbeing.
The course explores the continuum of mental health experience; from feeling well, to being overly stressed, to experiencing mental health issues that can impact on a person’s day-to-day life. There will be a specific focus on recognising and responding to stress, anxiety and low mood along with information about interventions and services.

 

Aim(s):

To raise general awareness about mental health and provide up to date information to help promote emotional wellbeing.

 

Objectives:

By the end of the course participants will have had opportunities to:

  • Explore current attitudes and responses to mental health and well-being and their implications in practice
  • Consider the range of factors involved in emotional health experiences and the basics to maintaining wellbeing
  • Develop understanding of, and responses to, the common mental health difficulties of stress, anxiety and depression
  • Gain some basic practical guidance for supporting someone who is struggling with their mental health and wellbeing
  • Clarify range of services and support available

Your trainer(s)

Suzanne Pearson

Suzanne Pearson is a BABCP Accredited CBT therapist and a Registered Mental Health Nurse. She also has a PGCE in Adult Education. Suzanne has extensive and ongoing experience of supporting individuals to develop their resilience and well-being, and in supporting those recovering from mental and emotional distress.

 

She has worked in the NHS and voluntary sector as a therapist, mental health practitioner and service manager. Currently she provides a low cost in-person and online CBT therapy service for adults. Suzanne has been a longstanding volunteer with a peer led self-help group for people who self-harm, and she has also volunteered for a national out of hours crisis service.

 

She continues to be involved with various local mental health related charities as an advisor. She is an experienced independent mental health and social care trainer including being a qualified instructor for the Mental Health First Aid (Adult and Youth) and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills (ASIST) courses.
