Course overview:

Welcome to the world of Motivational Interviewing! Whether your primary role involves guiding clients through change or supporting individuals grappling with ambivalence, this course offers a foundation for starting meaningful conversations about change. Through a dynamic blend of interactive presentations, video demonstrations, group discussions, and paired skills practice, you'll gain the tools and confidence to start putting your MI skills into practice.

 

Aim(s):

To develop understanding and introductory skills in Motivational interviewing.

 

Objectives:

By the end of the course participants will have had opportunities to:

  • Understand what Motivational interviewing is
  • Appreciate how it can be used to improve outcomes for clients
  • Begin to develop an understanding of theoretical explanations for Motivational Interviewing
  • Begin to apply some of techniques and skills to support clients on their journey to resolve ambivalence and move towards change

Your trainer(s)

Thea Pflaum

Thea has over a decade of experience in health and social care, with a strong focus on supporting socially excluded communities. As an experienced criminal justice practitioner and team manager, she presently manages the community drug and alcohol treatment service in Bath and North-East Somerset.

 

With her previous background in teaching and education, Thea is currently pursuing a master's degree in Addictions. Thea has recently spent time successfully developing drug treatment services’ facilitated access to psychological provision locally.

 

Thea has spent the past five years delivering training and coaching to drug workers and other social care professionals alongside her role as service manager.
