Develop your confidence and essential skills to recognise, understand and respond to domestic abuse. Explore definitions, prevalence, typologies, relevant legislation and tools to assess risk.

Increase awareness of the importance of multi-agency working, and how to refer individuals to specialist services and MARAC so that they can receive the right support.

Discuss counter allegations and skills for working with those that harm; alongside good practice in understanding the victims’ voice.

    To build confidence and develop essential skills to recognise, understand and respond to domestic abuse

    Course objectives

    By the end of the course participants will have had opportunities to:

    • Recognise the signs of domestic abuse and discuss how to respond
    • Understand the barriers faced when 'asking the question' and managing responses to a disclosure
    • Identify a victim's level of risk and use the Dash risk checklist
    • Know how to refer a victim to a specialist domestic abuse service or MARAC so that they can receive the right support
    • Increase awareness of the MARAC process and multi-agency working
    • Gain skills of working with those that harm
    • Develop understanding of the victims’ voice
