This is a 1/2 day course delivered online (for teams).

Targeted at staff and/or volunteers working in the health, social care and charity sectors who may already run a peer service or be at the very beginning of setting one up.

This half day workshop examines required policies, frameworks, paperwork, dos and don’ts, staff skills, practical resources and time commitments in the setting up of peer mentoring services.

    A workshop that examines required policies, frameworks, paperwork, dos and don’ts, staff skills, practical resources and time commitments in the setting up of peer mentoring services

    Course objectives

    By the end of the course, you will have had opportunities to:

    • Obtain the perspective of one of the trainers who has lived experience, who became a peer, and who ended up managing a peer service, as to the benefits of peer mentoring
    • Consider the value of peer mentoring from a public health perspective i.e. reducing inequalities, preventing ill-health, social returns on investment
    • Receive a step-by-step approach to setting up a peer service safely, in any sector, and discuss some of the differences between different client groups in peer mentoring
    • Consider the problems and barriers that may be faced in setting up peer mentoring and how to overcome them
    • Have a list of paperwork required for the service
    • Examine the issue of boundaries and careful matching of peers
